Transferology — Creating a Visual Vocabulary Workshop Description: Depending on the amount of time we will explore many different ways of transferring imagery. Techniques may include the following techniques depending on the length of the workshop:
Xylene *
Citra-Solv*
Paperless Paper
Thermofax Screen Printing
Carved Stamps
Fabric thru the Photo Copier
Mono Printing
Ink Jet Transfers (BJS 2000, heat transfer)
Stencils
Discharge — Bleach and Thiox*
Foiling
… and how to combine them. Let this be the time to play — push the envelope — then fill it with your creative ideas.
We will be working in a small format with the focus on experimentation. You‘ll work on developing a personal “vocabulary” of imagery.
In depth hand outs on all techniques will be provided. Everyone will make a book of samples and notes for later reference.
The number of techniques covered depend of the length of the class.
*Please Note: Techniques require the use of a respirator and access to working outside.
Screen Printing from Simple to Sublime Workshop description: The focus of this hands on workshop is to introduce and take the unknown element out of screen printing.
The techniques that can be covered in depth may include: direct wax, screen filler ,photo emulsion, contact and freezer paper stencils. Medium possibilities can include: textile paints, thickened dyes, discharge using thiox, bleach, puff extender and foils.
Other subjects that will be discussed are studio safety and how to expose screens in your own studio. The techniques will taught step by step so that you are comfortable and understand each one. There will be time to print & experiment & trouble- shoot and play.
Using the Photocopier as a Design Tool
When I was in school my drawing professor informed me that I could not draw — I turned to the photocopier. In this hands on workshop you’ll discover new ways of designing with this instant image making machine.
Topics to be covered:
History of the copier
Nuts and bolts of the copier - how they work etc
Using transparencies manipulations screens, toners
Photocopy fabrics
Xylene transfers*
In depth hand outs on all techniques will be provided.
